On Waking Up One Day and Being Cynical

Today I was a guest speaker in a former colleague's undergraduate class. The topic was "advocacy." As I was doing my presentation, I couldn't help but feel that I was being self-deprecating and sarcastic about how doing advocacy is helpful for our communities in advancing common agenda items. I think this is a sign that DC is getting to me.

Being in an undergrad college setting brought back memories of how I got started in this work. I envisioned myself being one of those students in this class listening to this very dispirited lecture. I remember being inspired, motivated and engaged by speakers. I don't think this happened for this class. Hopefully I did not create a more apathetic generation!

Oh well. I guess its best they learn early or this could be surprising when I see one of these students on the Hill or working at an advocacy organization.

In other news UMD is a beautiful campus.

In other other news, I did buy the Britney album. :-|
